Abhijit Raut

I am an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (2013 batch, Maharashtra cadre), presently serving as Joint Commissioner, State GST Department, Maharashtra. My professional journey spans over a decade of service in district administration, public finance, rural development, education, disaster management, and governance at both state and central levels.
In prior assignments, I have served as Assistant Secretary, Ministry of HRD, GoI, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad Sangli, and Collector & District Magistrate, Jalgaon and Nanded. These roles provided extensive experience in policy formulation, program implementation, crisis management, and institutional leadership.

• Spearheaded Sardar Sarovar Project rehabilitation in Nandurbar (2016-17)
• Directed post-flood recovery & epidemic control in Sangli (2019)
• Led Covid-19 response in Jalgaon (2020-21)
• Ensured peaceful conduct of elections in Nanded (2024)

My professional approach is guided by a commitment to public service, institutional efficiency, and sustainable development, with a focus on strengthening governance frameworks and delivering measurable outcomes.

A Civil Servant by profession and a biotechnologist by training, I like navigating the fascinating crossroads of governance, science, and society. Beyond the official designation, I’m an amateur geographer and a self-confessed naïve writer who enjoys exploring ideas as much as landscapes. Driven by a passion for productivity and self-improvement, I explore transformative ideas through insightful books and personal reflections. 

Human behaviour, symbology, and logology intrigue me endlessly, and when I’m not decoding patterns of people or words, you’ll probably find me immersed in cricket, movies, music, or the vast worlds of high‑fantasy fiction.
