Morale is the manifestation of confidence, enthusiasm, willingness and discipline of an individual or a group. It is also an indicator of the satisfaction felt while working for a goal. While motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic, morale is an intrinsic quality. Without any doubt morale is a very important character that one must focus on in order to be successful.
Morale and motivation are often seen as the same but they have a basic conceptual difference.Morale refers to the attitude of a person towards his work and environment while motivation is a process to inspire people. Motivation is an inner feeling which energises a person to work more for satisfying his unsatisfied demands. Motivation is more about needs and incentives whereas morale is more related to willingness.
Morale is particularly important in team dynamics. Boosting the morale of team is a vital character that a leader should possess. It can be done by recognizing achievements, by inspiring positivity or by starting a healthy competition. Not only the leader, but every team member should act as a morale booster. All members of a team should buck each other up to increase the collective morale.
Morale is a state of mind. Morale leads to steadfastness and courage. It leads to hope. And where there is hope, anything is possible.
