Y:Yield

Yield is a parameter of efficiency of a person, process or product. Simply defined, it is the ratio of aggregate output generated per unit of input. However yield may not always be quantifiable or measurable in objective terms. When we talk of qualitative inputs and outputs, yield is basically the impact generated or the value added in that particular process.

Yield is basically the hallmark of productivity. It is an indicator which gives a clear view of whether the efforts taken or resources utilized are giving the desired results at a desired speed. Hence yield is a valuable criteria to evaluate a process. An impartial assessment of yield is something that every successful person or team often keep on doing.

Being productive and yielding good results does not mean being busy all the time or putting in huge amount of resources. Yield is about result orientedness. It is more about the smart work to improve performance rather than just slogging and draining oneself. Knowing the target exactly, planning to achieve it systematically and executing the plan diligently is the key to success.

Improving yield and productivity is an exercise which is vital for success. Once we know our baseline yield, we can analyze the shortcomings and work in them accordingly. This process of increasing productivity is a continuous one, as there is always scope for improvement. And this search for improvement and efficiency distinguishes winners from others.
