The quest for something new and innovative is a great character that defines successful people. The journey to success is never a smooth one. It consists of facing many unknown and unexpected problems which means one has to think out of the box to resolve them. The newness and freshness in approach is something that motivates oneself and also the team.
Newness or innovation has to start with the thought process. The willingness to change and to accept the new is very important. It involves risk to digress from the set pattern. One has to break the inertia and traditional mindset in order to innovate. Once the innovation is accepted, then it is just about the execution. Hence it becomes very important to ensure that introducing innovation is not a sudden and imposed process. Innovation has to be a collective, informed and well planned decision.
While innovation is a necessary thing in order to succeed, it must be noted that it should not result in disregard for the old. Many times the new is nothing but a minimal improvisation in the old. Thus the old can act as a base for the new. Completely throwing away the old is not required all the time. In fact the urge to replace the old just for the sake of it has to be avoided. Innovation has to be smart and precise, tweaking the old system to improve the efficiency.
Innovation seems fancy and exciting, but in reality it is very challenging. Especially in a group, it becomes particularly tricky to introduce new thoughts. Thoughtful yet courageous innovation is a hallmark of succces. Because you cannot find new oceans if you don’t have the willingness to go on newer routes.

There’s something I wished to add. Innovation ostensibly appears to be sustainable. Man’s quirkiness of greed is a universal. So along with well planned, informed and collective approach, sustainability needs to be added to rightly serve the need, be it a serendipity!
