R:Rationality

Rationality is the quality of adhering to logic and reason while making a decision. Logic and reason form the foundation of thoughful human behaviour. Ideally must take into account the facts to take an effective decision. A decision based on facts is more probable of being a successful one.

Rationality implies objectivity. Perceiving things objectively without any value judgement is the first step of rational behaviour. Next comes rational processing and actual decision making based on these objective inputs. An objective decision ensures fairness and justice, making it more acceptable and implementable.

Rationality is particularly important in group dynamics. Any group or organization has diverse kind of members with different emotional setups. In such situation a decision from leader can be effective and impactful only when it appeals to all the members. Only when rational, objective thought process is applied, the decision can elicit compliance in these cases. Hence rational behaviour is a key parameter of leadership.

On the other hand rationality does not mean mechanical decision making. One has to consider the emotive side of every decision or action. In fact the emotional side of any event actually becomes a very critical input for a perfect rational and real decision. It’s all about balancing the rational and emotional sides of human behaviour.

Rationality is about asking questions. It implies not to outrightly believe in anything , but to analyze and apply mind to each and every situation. A rational decision is a mindful decision. And such decisions are the stepping stones in the way to success.

  1. Unable to understand sir, how to make space for emotive side in rational decision making.
For individuals like me (emotional side being dominant), they are mutually exclusive events (rational and emotional decision making).

    1. As per my interpretation, rationality is not the complete disregard of emotive behaviour. It is about minimizing the negative effects of emotive behaviour and more importantly quantifying emotions to use them as an objective input for decision making.
