S: Sustainability

Sustainability simply means the ability and capacity to remain at a particular level or rate. Each discipline interprets sustainability differently. But in terms of the philosophy of success, it is more about creating a lasting impact, that will not fade away soon.

Sustainability is not merely the end but is also the means. We cannot meet a sustainable target by utilizing unsustainable processes or resources. Even a single unsustainable step taken can derail the entire process from the track of sustainability. This is why it is important to inculcate the basic dogma of sustainability in the culture and behaviour of an individual or a team.

While working in a resource constrained environment, sustainability becomes a particularly important factor. In these situations we need to optimally utilize the available resources in order to achieve the goal. This in fact is a greatly useful skill in management and administration which results into higher productivity.

Sustainability plays a major role in one’s personal life as well. In today’s world of competition and comparison, everyone is searching for the elusive ‘fullfilling life’ and running in a mad race. But the true success can be achieved only by maintaining a sustainable approach to life.

A sustainable approach to life essentially means to cut down all the unnecessary targets and distractions, and to focus and invest only on what truly makes one happy and content. It involves diverting time, efforts and resources from destructive and unproductive activities to the productive ones. Only a sustainable individual can embrace the true meaning of success, and enjoy it. And this is the key to achieve a fulfilling life.
